Rices
When it comes to making a rice, the best way is to follow directions given on the package. The simplest white rice is 2 parts water and 1 part rice. However if you want a stand-alone rice, then I suggest the following.
2 Cups Chicken Broth (I use low sodium to control the salt level)
1 Cup White Rice
1 Tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Butter
Bring water and salt to a boil in a small pot. Add rice. Stir a couple of times until it starts to boil again right after you stop stirring. Cover with tight fitting lid, reduce heat to lowest setting and cook for 15 minutes.
Do not lift the lid during this cooking period.
After 15 minutes lift lid and tilt the pot to see if any water remains. If so, replace lid and cook until no water is seen when tilting.
Remove from heat but leave the cover on and let set for 10 minutes.
Remove lid, add butter and fluff rice with fork gently.
Serve immediately!
Feel free to spice things up if you wish by adding garlic powder, curry powder, or old bay seasoning. Simple spice additions like that can really enhance the rice!
